The Lefthand Canyon wild plums are probably my favorite wild-harvested fruit of 2022. They are tiny but easy to pick, versatile, and delicious. Felix and I picked a 25 pounds of them and then I made Wild Plum Jelly from the juice and this barbecue sauce from the pulp. The pits will get planted in several places around Gilpin County in hopes that we will have our own harvest closer to home in three or four years!
This sauce is amazing on pork or beef or if you're adventurous, on a sandwich! It brought amazing flavor depth to Instant Pot chicken legs. It will embolden whatever you serve it with and makes a wonderful housewarming or hostess gift. This is a complex recipe and it requires a time-consuming cooking process. The results are worth it!

Lefthand Canyon wild plums
red, yellow, and orange bell peppers
white onions
brown sugar
organic apple cider vinegar with "mother"
black pepper
This fruit is completely seasonal and I won't be able to make this again until late September or early October 2023, so plan accordingly!
