Pine Cone Paraffin Fire Starters

These handmade paraffin fire starters are a miracle if, like me, you struggle to light a fire in your wood stove, fireplace, or when out camping. Not only are they magical for starting fires, but this product is made almost entirely by my 13-year old son, Felix, who is learning about gathering all the needed materials, planning to make items, actually making them with high quality, and packaging them for shipment - and while we expect everyone to contribute to the household through this family business, Felix gets to keep these proceeds! :-)

How do you use them? First, be very aware that these are NOT candles. They are meant to be burned in a place where you want a beautiful big fire, NOT your bathroom counter! As shown in the photos, lay your fire, leaving a small cavity to place the pine cone fire starter. Put the pine cone into that hollow on its side or standing up, little paper and all, double-check that the flue is open, and then light the wick. In 2-4 minutes with dry wood, and 5-6 minutes with damp wood, you will have an actual fire! Each pine cone fire starter will burn 14-20 minutes and leaves no residue.

Felix collects these pine cones on our farm, measures them to make sure that they are between 70-86 mm in size, and then hand dips them in molten paraffin 3-4 times, adding a wick after the second dip. Your order will contain either 6 or 7 cones (7 if there are a few on the small side) in a reusable mesh bag. There are natural variations in the pine cones, of course.

We offer unscented, vanilla pine, and cinnamon fragrances, with the fragrances coming from organic essential oil.

IMPORTANT: Paraffin is highly flammable. Please do not store these fire starters close enough to the actual fire for them to melt. While all materials are non-toxic, we still don't recommend them as cat toys or dog chewies. Do not light pine cone fire starters before placing them in the fireplace. They light very quickly and we wouldn't want you to get burned holding one. Dory Dozens Delights can't accept any liability for fire starter usage but we will replace any that don't burn (we've never had this happen).
